YE MYSTIC REVELLERS
A TABLEAU
Depicting in Dramatic Pantomime
The Creation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Many years ago, before the Netherlands were united into a Kingdom, it consisted of many Provinces, some of which were Holland, Zeeland and Brabant; each of these Provinces was governed by a Duke or a King.

The Province of Holland was governed by King Reveller, XI, a very cruet monarch, hated by his subjects, whom he had impoverished by heavy tax levies made necessary by his extravagances. He was very superstitious man and under the domination of the famous witch, "Black Mary".

The Province of Zeeland was governed by the Duke of Zeeland, a lovable ruler, but not warlike enough to cope with his neighbor, King Reveller XI. Just previous to the time of this story, King Reveller XI had made war on the Duke of Zeeland and captured his lovely daughter, a maiden of twenty, and had carried her, together with her four beautiful maids to his Kingdom. The people soon fell in love with the beautiful girl and every time she appeared in public the populace saluted her joyfully, but when Kind Reveller XI rode through the streets the people cursed him.

The witch, Black Mary, observed the growing love of the subjects of King Reveller XI, for the Princess and their increased hatred for their King and counseled the King to put the Princess and her four Maids to death. The Kind would have done so had not his gracious and beautiful Queen interceded in behalf of the young ladies.

Black Mary then decided that she would take the matter in her own hands. One day when the Princess and her attendants were walking in the Royal Gardens, she made use of her witchcraft and turned the Princess and the four Maidens into inanimate objects. She then told the Kind what she had done. He was greatly pleased, but as soon as his subjects ascertained the truth the broke into the Palace, seized the wicked witch and demanded that she restore the Princess and her Maids. Black mary told them that this was impossible and that she could bring them to life only when a new, unmarried ruler ascended

the Throne of the Kingdom of Holland and chose the Princess for his Queen.

The populace then demanded that King Reveller XI abdicate in favor of the unmarried and greatly beloved Prince Willian of Oranage, a suitor for the hand of the Princess of Zeeland, and who had already been chosen by the other Provinces of the Netherlands to be their ruler and, who, with his courtiers and pages was then at the gates of the City demanding entrance. The King consulted with the Captain of his Army and learning that is was against him and supporting the people, he acceded to their demand by abdicating.

The Captain of the Army thereupon opened the City Gates and escorted the Prince, his courtiers and pages, to the throne and crowned Prince William of Orange as King Reveller XII.

King Reveller XII demanded that the Captain product Black mary, then order the Captain to behead the witch unless she produced the Princess and her Maids. Black Mary agreed to the King's demand provided that the King would choose the Princess as his Queen. This, the Kind was happy to do. Thereupon, the Captain escorted Black mary to the Royal Gardens wehre she first product the four Maids, who were escorted to the throne by their respective courtiers and pages. She then further exercised her magic and brought to life the Princess to the throne were she was crowned Queen.

The Kind thrn produced gifts for his Queen and her Maids and ordered flowers distributed to Queen Louis of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and to Past Queen Elizabeth of Ye Mystic Revellers and to other distinguished guests. Next he ordered the Royal Entertainer to perform, after which the Nobles and their Ladies danced in celebration of the Kind and Queen of the now United Princes of the Netherland; and
BELIEVE IT NOT NOT,
It was thus that the Netherlands became a Kingdom

The first two dances after the Grand March are reserved for Active Members and their Ladies
